"The Long Stick Game"

Introduction
In this chapter, students learned about the formation of the Iroquois League. In this lesson, students will learn about the sport of lacrosse, which Native American have enjoyed for centuries.

Lesson Description
Students will visit the Iroquois National Web site and read about the group's world class lacrosse team. They will read the history of the long stick game and view a series of sketches. They will also see photos of the players in action. They will answer four questions based on the information they have examined.

Instructional Objectives
1. Students will learn about the ancient game of lacrosse.
2. Students will examine the importance of team sports.
3. Students will learn about the Iroquois League STUDENT WEB

Student Web Activity Answers
1. The game was originally played as a spiritual practice. It was thought of as medicine for healing the people and binding the community.
2. The Mohawks, Oneidas, Onondagas, Cayugas, and Senecas were the original nations in the league. The Tuscaroras joined in the 1700s.
